What Are Hearing Aids?

Hearing Aid is an electronic device that helps a person suffering from hearing loss, listen and communicate. It consists of a microphone that picks up the sound and a receiver that delivers the amplified sound into the ear. It runs on batteries and can be connected with electronic devices like Smartphone and televisions.

Different types of hearing aids

Behind-the-ear (BTE):
This particular type of aid hooks on to the top of your ear and the unit is placed behind the ear. An ear mold fits inside the ear, which is connected by a tube. These are sturdy and most widely used hearing aids.
Open fit

In-the-ear (ITE):

In-the-canal (ITC):
These are the smallest hearing aids available in the market. These partially or completely fit inside your ear canal. It is custom molded and barely visible.

These are the old type of hearing aids that amplify all sounds without differentiation. Hearing aid settings require to be manually changed according to specific environments. Digital hearing aids are more advanced and have multiple programming options. These aids can also differentiate speech and other environmental noises.

  • Frequency modulation, Directional microphone systems and Data logging are some of the other features that enhance the experience of a hearing aid.
